Paph lawrenceanum	After its discovery in the late 19th Century, Paphiopedilum lawrenceanum became an exceptionally important breeding species because of its large, flat dorsal sepal. Paph dayanum	Paphiopedilum dayanum not only has very elegant blooms, it has some of the most beautiful leaves in the genus (two varieties, in fact.) Paph. ciliolare	This is an imported species that is similar to superbiens and curtisii. It's sometimes called the "eyelash" orchid, because of the thick hairs along the petal edges.	BS	$25	SOLD OUT

Paph. venustum	This is the colored form of the species. Because of the bold veins on the pouch, many find it reminiscent of brains (or other body parts). However you feel about the blooms, this is a species which has truly beautiful leaves that are worth growing for their own sake. Paph topperi	Paph topperi is the green relative of Paph kolopakingii. These are among the largest of the Paphs, with leaf spans reaching three feet when fully mature, and three foot spikes carrying more than a dozen flowers - when in bloom, these plants are spectacular! Paph. delenatii (Taiwanese cross)	This is one of the new sib crosses of the southern Vietnamese form, so the blooms should be large and the pouch a uniform pink, sometimes quite dark. Paph. delenatii	Paphiopedilum delenatii was originally discovered and collected in the 1910s and 1920s, and cultivated by the French. Until their rediscovery in the 1990s, virtually all of the delenatii in cultivation were bred from these few, early collected plants. These seedlings are from the older line of breeding. They tend to have a more delicate pink color in the pouch, and are also typically much more fragrant than the newer crosses. This is a very fast growing, vigorous cross! Paph. liemianum	This is probably my favorite species in the Cochlopetalum division, probably because of the halo around the dorsal sepal. It will bloom sequentially for months, or even years, on a single flower spike. This is a great species to own if you like to always have something in bloom! Paph barbigerum	A very compact growing species, typically considered a "teacup" orchid. Will bloom on a 4 inch growth in a 2 inch pot, depending on the cross. Paph. exul	Paphiopedilum exul is a beautiful strap leaved species. These plants are multi-growth, blooming size, with a leaf spans ranging from about 12" up to 15". The genus Paphiopedilum encompasses most of the slipper orchids of Asia. Considering the size of the continent, it is no surprise that these orchids inhabit a vast range of habitats. Along with their variety of habitat comes a variety of forms, from the single flowered and often mottled-leafed terrestrials such as Paph delenatii, micranthum, and tigrinum, to the larger, strap-leaved lithophytes and epiphytes such as Paph rothschildianum, stonei, lowii and sanderianum.

The species of Paphiopedilum are among the most bizarre, rare, and beautiful of the orchid world.
